Serengeti Airstrip – Airport Transfers | Seronera Airstrip | Lobo airstrip | Fort Ikoma airstrip | Kogatende airstrip | Serengeti Kusini | Kirawira B

How to get to Serengeti

It’s also possible to drive; the trip is about 325km/202mi and will take about eight hours. It is a bumpy ride but it’s scenic and you’ll see some wildlife on the way.

Most safaris to the Serengeti start from the town of Arusha. The best option to get there is to fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) which is situated about 46km/29mi from Arusha. It is also possible to fly into Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR), just outside of Dar es Salaam, and fly on to Arusha Airport (ARK) or Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).

There are regular flights from Arusha to several airstrips inside the park.

As the trip takes you through the Ngorongoro Conservation area, a popular option is to fly one way, and drive the other way taking in an overnight stop to visit the Ngorongoro Crater. Coming from the crater, the distance to the Seronera area in the Serengeti is about 140km/90mi, and the driving time is about three hours.

What is on Offer?

We offer reliable Tanzania car hire and rental services in Arusha and all over Tanzania, using a range of Safari vehicles for hire with Driver Guides at competitive rates. Vehicles include 4WD Safari Tour Vans and 4×4 Landcruisers, ideal for Tourist safaris and gamedrives in national parks such as Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Lake Manyara.

We also provide car and driver service in Arusha. It is safe to rent a car in Tanzania especially with a local Driver-Guide who is used to the challenging roads and driving conditions. We often also get asked which side of the road we drive in Tanzania – the answer is on the left (like in the United Kingdom, Australia, India or Kenya) so the vehicles are as such “Right Hand Drive”.

Sayari Camp in the Serengeti National Park has a prime location to witness Mara River wildebeest migration crossings.

The Serengeti can be visited throughout the year, except perhaps during the season of the long rains from mid-April to May. Altitudes in the Serengeti range from 900 to 1800 metres which is higher than most of Europe. Temperatures therefore vary from 15 degrees to 25 degrees Celsius, with chilly evenings from June to October.

Endless plains and riverine woodlands are home to abundant African wildlife like Leopard, Elephant, Lion, Cheetah, large herds of antelope and many other species. The Mara River, filled with Crocodiles and Hippos, cuts through this part of Tanzania.

The Serengeti boasts one of the greatest spectacles nature has to offer: the wildebeest crossings of the Mara River during the Great Migration in Tanzania. Between June and October, the wildebeest Migration typically visits this area in the Serengeti and crosses the Mara River back and forth in search of green grass.
