At Ndutu Safari Lodge you’re positioned in one of Tanzania’s most captivating wildlife landscapes inside the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, right on the edge of the Southern Serengeti plains. This location offers excellent year-round game viewing you’ll find, becoming especially rewarding between December and March when the wildebeest migration and calving season sweep through the short-grass plains and around nearby Lake Ndutu.
You’ll find the atmosphere here relaxed and welcoming, with a longstanding reputation for warm hospitality and authentic safari character. The accommodation comprises 34 comfortable stone-and-thatch cottages, each with its own veranda where early morning and evening wildlife activity can unfold almost at your doorstep. The main bar and dining area provide a convivial place to share stories of the day over hearty meals before night falls and the sounds of the bush take over.
From here you can set out each morning and afternoon in your own 4WD vehicle, exploring the diverse ecosystems of the surrounding plains and marshlands, spotting everything from elephants and giraffes to big cats and vast herds of plains game. Whether you’re passionate about wildlife photography or simply keen to immerse yourself in the rhythms of the Serengeti, this lodge makes a superb base.
Our view
Ndutu Safari Lodge offers an inexpensive and central base from which to explore the short-grass plains of the southern Serengeti and the northern section of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. However, because it is very good value and in a great location, it gets very booked up during the wildebeest migration. You may need to book a year or more in advance to be sure of finding space here.
