Kusini is a brilliant camp of exceptional quality. But the prices are getting quite steep. There are some good mobile camps that get you away from the crowds and among the migration for better value. Kusini gets a 3 paw rating.
Kusini Camp is located in the Southern Serengeti, right on the border of the Maswa Game Reserve. The camp is about 5 a minute drive from the Kusini airstrip and an hour from Ndutu.
Kusini Camp is owned by Sanctuary Lodges, the operating arm of Abercrombie and Kent, so you can imagine the camp quality to be exceptional and service top class; it is. The main area of the lodge is an A-frame shaped tented structure built on a platform which is slightly raised to compliment the stunning views. To one side is the bar and lounge area and to the other is the dining room.
The 12 rooms are all tented and being permanent they offer the added extras. They have lovely doors on hinges, fully plunged exquisite bathrooms, massive double beds, private balconies to admire the view and finest Motlen Brown products. For honeymoons, this is a firm favourite of ours.
Kusini Camp offers day time Serengeti safari drives. Being located in the national park itself means it has to comply by the national park rules.
Our view
Although our last visit to Kusini was fairly brief, the staff were friendly and the atmosphere welcoming. The tents are fairly simple in terms of design and furnishings, but retain an air of luxury and comfort. It is worth noting that tsetse flies were quite numerous in the surrounding areas, although not majorly bothersome once you are within the camp’s buildings
