Day to Day Activities

Day 1: Arusha – Lake Manyara

You will be met by your driver-guide in Arusha or at the Arusha airport and together you will begin driving to Lake Manyara National Park to start your private game drive. You will enjoy a packed lunch at midday. At the end of the afternoon, you will make your way to Africa Safari Karatu lodge. On arrival, you will have time to refresh before finishing the day with dinner under the stars. We hope you have a good night’s sleep in one of our comfy bungalow accommodations.

Day 2: Ndutu

Today you have a rewarding drive ahead of you as you make your way from the Lake Manyara region through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and to Ndutu/South Serengeti. The road will take you through the Maasai homeland. The Maasai are the only people permitted to live in the conversation area. Traditionally nomadic, the Maasai are rich in culture and can often be seen herding their cattle in their brightly colored robes.

Day 3: Ndutu

You’ll wake up to all the sounds of nature and, with a bit of luck, you may even see a group of elephants pass by your tent! After a delicious breakfast, today will be all about an impressive game drive where you will thoroughly explore the Ndutu area. At the end of the day, you will return to Africa Safari South Serengeti for a delicious dinner and a good night’s sleep.

Day 4: Serengeti National Park

There is nothing like waking up from a restful sleep to the sounds of the Serengeti. Once you have enjoyed your breakfast, the acacia-covered savannah of the park welcomes you to explore the wildlife. You will drive towards the central Serengeti and Seronera area. In the late afternoon, you will return to Africa Safari South Serengeti camp.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater

Be sure to wake up early today so there is no delay on your descent into the famous Ngorongoro Crater. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area will amaze you with its beauty, especially when you arrive at its edge and take in the amazing view. The crater of this inactive volcano is approximately three million years old, 20 square km in size, and the largest unbroken volcanic caldera in the world.

The wildlife in the crater is spectacular due to its natural borders. It is home to the “Big Five” and offers a good chance to spot the rare black rhino. Throw hyena, zebra, buffalo, and elephants into the mix, and you have the perfect canvas for an awesome safari experience. At the end of the afternoon, you will make your way to the Africa Safari Karatu lodge for a well-deserved night’s sleep.

Day 6: Arusha

All good things must come to an end! Enjoy your last meal at Africa Safari Karatu before checking out. After meeting your driver-guide at the reception area, we’ll head back to where it all began on an easy three-hour drive back to Arusha. Your heart and camera will be filled with memories of your African safari adventure.

YES! Overall, it is entirely possible to have an epic safari on both a high and low budget. If you don’t mind foregoing certain frills and sticking to a larger, easier-to-reach national park, then the low end offers a unique opportunity for adventure that certain seasoned travelers prefer.

The most convenient option is to fly from Arusha to one of the park’s seven airstrips. It is also possible to book an overland safari in a 4×4 safari vehicle from Arusha to Serengeti National Park and visit one or two other parks along the way.

Short answer: no. Public restroom facilities are few and far between within national parks. If the call of nature hits while you’re out on safari and you can’t hold it until you get back to camp, you’ll be paying a stop to the bush toilet.

The North of the Serengeti is hugely popular due to the high-quality campsites and also because it is by far the best place to see the herds of the Great Migration. The North is also the chosen region for safari aficionados because it’s one of the finest regions for a walking safari as well as driving.
